Solar Energy: A different sort of harvest

Work is beginning on a project I initiated back in the spring of 2023, putting up solar panels on my out buildings at the farm. It started off arbitrarily with an aggressive online solar installation outfit out of the Twin Cities. Honestly, I think I clicked on an ad, and it felt a little grimy. Off-brand thing for me to do, but I've always been intrigued by solar and I suspect THE ALGORITHM that serves ads knows that. After some back and forth with them (like... way too much back and forth -- they're still contacting me!), they sounded ok but they were not giving me warm fuzzies. I requested a couple references and reached out to them, only one of the three answered and was actually pretty lukewarm about the whole thing. Not a good sign. I then reached out to a local supplier who was quick to respond and provided a quote and informed me about the existence of a USDA grant that would match funds for the cost of the installation. This resulted in a quote for a larger system, complete with a battery backup.

After some heel dragging by me on portions of the paperwork and some crossed wires coupled with health issues with the grant writers receiving what they needed from me, we finally got everything sent in, and things proceeded favorably.

After a meh grain harvest, I look forward to the progress on the solar array, and passively collecting those sweet sweet rays from the sun and turning it into energy for the farm and the family!
