Back in Business with a New Combine

New Combine, Harvest 2024 Part II Underway

After wheeling and dealing my way into a new (to me) combine (plus players to be named later), I was able to bring my new unit home last night.

I said goodbye to my under-performing piece of shit 2022 John Deere S770 and grabbed the RTK Globe and a couple personal effects out of the cab.

Bye, Felicia.

Metal Shards on a table

Here are some metal shards they found in the hydraulic lines. Seems bad!

We got going in the morning and things seemed to be going well until I whipped around to unload and suddenly, no response from throttle. Reverse? No. Second Gear? No. Turn combine off and on again? No. UGHGHGHGHHGHGHGHGHGHHGHG call C&B Service????

wait

I don't know much, but something is amiss here.

Shaft Problem

That's the shaft running from front wheel to front wheel, and it shouldn't look like that. The collar is supposed to hold it together. So we pounded the collar back into place after some jostling around and were off on our merry way again. Note: for whatever reason that thing doesn't "click in" like a PTO does. It just.. is there. Held in place by a whisper of a hint of a wish that it should not move from side to side. This was the first time we've ever encountered a problem with this part of a modern combine so it must work most of the time. (shrug)

Anyway, after we fixed that thing, we didn't encounter any particularly noteworthy setbacks during the day other than shitty yields. Which we expected. Hooray!
